Call For Directors
for MYT 2024 Season!

We are seeking applications from experienced, highly motivated directors interested in leading creative teams for our 2024 theatrical productions. We are planning to present an all-ages, full-length musical in early May, 2024, two or more shorter musicals and/or plays featuring only youth performers over the summer, and then another all-ages, full-length musical in December 2024 or early January of 2025.

Aspiring directors must work closely with their creative teams and parent volunteers. All creative team members must be able to support the MYT mission of creating a nurturing theater experience for young people, and be able to work well with others.

Show Details

MYT’s recent all-ages shows have included A Christmas Carol, The Wizard of Oz, and Seussical, and in January 2024 we will be staging Newsies at Crooker Theater in Brunswick. Summer shows for high school-aged performers in recent years have included full-length productions of Carousel, The Addams Family, and Anything Goes. Summer shows for younger performers have included Matilda Jr., Beauty and the Beast Jr., and other similar titles, performed in smaller theater spaces like the Horizons Center in Brunswick.

We encourage applicants to suggest shows they are interested in directing, and we are open to discussing your preferences. MYT seeks directors who are excited to bring productions they are passionate about to the stage! We are also open to suggestions of non-musical productions for youths.

MYT’s Mission

MYT is committed to providing an opportunity for every child who auditions for our shows a chance to perform. Our summer youth shows are planned for performance in smaller venues like the AOEC’s Horizons Center Theater in Brunswick that seat 100-200 audience members. Outdoor theater may also be an option as appropriate. Our winter and spring shows for all ages will be performed in a larger venue such as Crooker Theater in Brunswick.

About Us

Midcoast Youth Theater is a non-profit organization providing equal opportunities for all children to perform. We are an inclusive theater group, casting all children who audition.  We also provide financial scholarships for any who need it in order to participate in our programming. We attempt to choose shows that accommodate our large casts, have expandable ensembles, and provide opportunities for children of different abilities.

The primary focus of MYT is to create opportunities for actors to learn and grow, and to have fun while doing it.

Application Process

To apply, please email a resume and answers to the following questions to the MYT Board at mytboard@midcoastyouththeater.org with the subject line “MYT 2024 Call for Directors” as soon as possible. Positions will be filled on a rolling basis.

  1. Please provide a brief narrative of your theater background. Include your directorial experience, if any, including the details (name, cast size, cast age range and organization or school name that produced the show) of the last three shows in which you have been involved. If you have directed fewer than three shows, please include relevant experience you have had that make you a strong candidate for directing an MYT show, including your specific experience with working with children.

  2. Describe the skills or experience you have that will enable you to foster an environment of mutual support and teamwork.

  3. Share the show that you are interested in directing, the age range (if applicable) and the time frame in which you are interested in directing.
